Case Notes:

Lyn Warren Orford is far from "ship shape and Bristol fashion". He needs to pay some attention to his medals. If he removed the two self purchased tin medals, the remainder would still not look neat, but would be less offensive.

Orford was aboard HMAS Sydney on a voyage to Vung Tau, Vietnam from 1 Nov 1972 until 30 Nov 1972. Orford is listed as having spent 30 days in Vietnam aboard HMAS Sydney, however, his actual time in Vietnam was a total of seventeen and a half hours in Vung Tau Harbour.

Here is an extract from the Ship's Captain's Report of Proceedings for the visit to Vung Tau, Vietnam.

For those hours in Vietnam, Orford was officially awarded the Vietnam Logistic and Support Medal (VLSM). He has then awarded himself, two extra self purchased medals, which are the last two on his second rack.

The extra two medals are the:

HMAS Sydney Medal Tin Self purchased medal. Not to be worn with official medals.

Logistic and Support Medal Tin self purchased medal. Not to be worn with official medals

Orford wears three medals for seventeen and a half hours in Vietnam. It is hoped that the Narooma Returned and Services League (RSL) do their job and have Orford remove the offending tin medals.

HMAS ANZMI is pleased to welcome Orford aboard, where he can swab the decks whilst contemplating his need to wear two self purchased tin medals.
