"Colonel" Bill had held the position of Treasurer in his tenure with the Lions, and took great pleasure in spruiking of his wartime exploits - of being captured by the Viet Cong and suspended from a tree in a bamboo cage, of being wounded no less than seven times, of having seven centimetres of his spine surgically removed due to bullet wounds, of being waist deep in snow on patrol in South Viet Nam, and lastly of being "desensitised" of his phobia by having the Army fly helicopters overhead in Collins Street. The Melbourne Herald/Sun journalist Russell ROBINSON was contacted by our operative and he then interviewed and photographed "Colonel Bill" - it was at this interview that Bill threw himself on his sword and admitted that he was actually serving time in prison for rape when he was supposedly ducking bullets in Viet Nam - read the relevant news article here 

When confronted with the facts Bill had no option but to write to the Victorian CPMH co-ordinator explaining why he was impersonating a Veteran.   His reply in the form of an apology and several photos proves that he at least has a modicum of conscience.  Then again - when cornered what are his alternatives?

"Colonel"  Bill Halstead's feeble attempt at an apology to the Veterans he was impersonating has been rejected.  His lies about unbelievable service as stated above, again brings disrepute to the SAS when the shame should be his for raping a young woman and being jailed for it.  If he had the intestinal fortitude to admit to what he had done in the first instance, instead of fabricating Military service, it would most likely have been forgotten by now, but his lies have brought him undone.

So another rogue is added to our gallery - a self confessed rapist who for over 30 years has walked in the blood of our brothers.  Do NOT for one minute feel sorry for this man - a jury of 12 citizens ultimately sent him to jail for a monstrous crime - the age of the female raped is unknown.  There are many thousands of veterans alive and gone before us who have daughters and as any rape victim knows, you can never forget.
