In 2003 Robert George Dobson told me he served as a
Section Commander with 7 RAR in Vietnam 1967-1968.

On the 6th October, 2009 I was at the home of
Robert George Dobson in Exmouth. Dobson made the
following claims to me:
In Vietnam I drank with the boys on SAS Hill, you would
be surprised as how many SAS vets I know.
We were baby killers; I personally bayoneted two babies
whilst I was there!”
Also when I was with 7 RAR I was a Section Commander
working in close proximity to a US Base. Before we went
out on patrol I said to my section that there was a
brothel close to where we would be patrolling so the
rest of the section agreed to what we would do, that was
to prop a short distance from the brothel and two men at
a time would go and quickly have a r..t and take turns.
So me and my 2 I/C went first leaving our weapons behind
where the section was propped. When we returned the
section was not there so we looked for them, they were
only a short distance from us when we spotted them, two
MP’s (Military Police) were also with the section. One
MP said, “We have got you now Dobbo, where’s your
weapons?” “We are charging you with dereliction of your
duty!”
Dobson; “Is that right and whilst the two MP’s weren’t
looking, the rest of the section gave the weapons back
to me and my 2 I/C, here are our weapons so you two
blokes can get f....d and F..k off now.” I also said to
them that if I hear anymore about this when we get back
you two blokes better watch your backs, if you know what
I mean.”
I went out to Dobson’s garage and telephoned a good mate
of mine xxxx xxxxxx in Perth and asked him if he could
look up Dobson’s details from the Vietnam Veterans
Nominal Roll on the internet and told him everything
Dobson had said to me. Two minutes later xxxx gave me
the details that 3789124 Robert George Dobson was a
National Serviceman, RAASC Private Soldier, never posted
to 7 RAR 1967-1968, discharged as a Private soldier
1968.
I then called a Mr xxxxxx xxxxxx a RAASC mate of Dobbo’s
and relayed all things Dobbo had told me
Xxxxx said to me, “That doesn’t surprise me as I have
known Dobbo to be a bullshit artist for years.”
With the information I received from my mate in Perth I
went inside to see Dobbo.
I said I was leaving. Dobson asked why? And I
told him because aren’t you Robert George Dobson and
your regimental number is 3789124. Dobson said
yes, you have been doing some checking up on me. I
said, that’s right and you were never with 7 RAR.
Dobson said, “You have your wires crossed.”
This
was approximately 2200 hrs (10.00pm) I packed my gear
into my vehicle and drove for 15 hours from Exmouth back
to Perth.
On arriving home I met my wife and she said, “I
missed a call from you so I telephoned Dobbo’s home in
Exmouth to speak to you and Dobbo said to me
that you had left because you was upset about him
bayoneting babies.”
I then telephoned Dobbo myself and said; “It was not
only for that, it was due to you lying with regards to
being a Section Commander with 7 RAR. What did you say
that for?”
Dobson; “I don’t know, I told you lies.”
I said; “You will be receiving emails from me over all
your bullshit over the next couple of days.”
Dobson then hung up his telephone.
I have not and will not speak to him again as I believe
in integrity, honesty and strength of character of which
I believe he is lacking in. I myself was and still am
hurt by the lies he told to me as I admire all returned
soldiers, from Australia from our first war to the
returning soldiers of current conflicts on foreign soil.
Being an ex serviceman myself I also remember all of our
fallen soldiers and also my mates who have died in
training with xxxx.

I phoned Robert George Dobson (Dobbo) in Exmouth to
speak to my husband who had gone there to pick up a
boat. I first spoke to his wife and she advised he had
left and gave the phone to Dobbo.
Dobson; “xxx had left”
I said; “Why?”
Dobson; “Because xxx thinks I killed babies in the
Vietnam War”
At this time my husband pulled up in the drive and I
said to Dobbo; “I will speak to my husband about what
happened.” and hung up.
I spoke to my husband and told him I had just been
speaking to Dobbo and what he said.
My husband immediately rang Dobbo and said to him, “You
said you bayoneted babies and you were a Section
Commander with 7 RAR.”
Dobson said, ‘I lied.”
Dobson was enlisted as a National Serviceman on the 13th
July 1966 and completed his recruit training at 2
Recruit Training Battalion. He then went on Bonegilla
and completed his trade training as a Driver ECN 302. He
was posted to 86 Transport Platoon, Royal Australian
Army Service Corps South Vietnam on the 24th
April1967 and completed his tour on the 23rd
April 1968.He completed his National Service on the 12th
July 1968.
As can be seen from his service record, he was not the
ideal soldier and committed a number of offences and
obviously had a problem with following orders and lack
of respect for authority.

From reading his service record you will also notice
that Robert George Dobson was never posted to the 7th
Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment especially as a
Section Commander as he was not an Infantryman.
It was bad enough lying about being a Section Commander,
but to making the remark, they were baby
killers and he personally bayoneted two babies
brings all soldiers who served on active service out in
the field into disrepute and puts a blemish on the
records of all the units that fought in battle in South
Vietnam especially the 7th Battalion RAR to
which he claims to have been a member.
Even though Dobson stated later, he lied to the
informant about killing babies, such comments would be
pounced upon by the misguided Anti-War protestors as
being the truth and backs up the claims they made when
they showed disrespect to the soldiers returning home
after their tour by throwing substances over them and
making false allegations. How long he has been spinning
such abhorrent tales of atrocities, and to whom, is
unknown – but the harm he has done to the upstanding
reputation of the Australian Digger is irreparable.
The soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War were doing
exactly what our troops were doing in Korea and that was
to stop South Vietnam being overrun by the communists.
Once the peace treaty was signed whereas only an
armistice was signed in Korea, all allied troops were
withdrawn giving North Vietnam time to regroup, retrain,
re-arm and invade South Vietnam starting another war.
Dobson was sent a letter giving him a chance to explain
his remarks, but as yet we have not heard from him. For
his lies and lack of respect to fellow soldiers who
served in the Vietnam War in particular the ones that
fell in battle and those that suffered wounds, Dobson
will grace out web site for the rest of his life.
